An Experience I won't forget

Take Action and Unite !

This is the cyberfair theme for the year 2011. International Schools CyberFair is an award-winning authentic learning program used by schools and youth organizations around the world. Youth conduct research and publish their findings on the Web. Recognition is given to the best projects in each of eight categories. This White House-endorsed program encourages youth to become community ambassadors by working collaboratively and using technology to share what they have learned. Students evaluate each other's projects by using a unique online evaluation tool.

For the past school years, SLU-LHS had been the consistent winner for the cyberfair competition. This motivated us to continue SLU's journey and lift up its name again. At first, we don't want to join the competition because were thinking that we can't make it or maybe we have no time for it because we have many projects, not only in technology and home economics but also in other subjects... but later, we realized that we must give it a try. Maybe, if we'll give it a try, we could lift up the name of our school and at least have a possibility to win the competition.

I had experienced a lot from this project. I also learned a lot of things from it. I learned that in order to finish a certain project, a group must have unity among its members. Everyone must cooperate, participate, and do his part to finish the task earlier and easier.

The first thing we did is to make a letter for request stating that we are asking permission from the manager for our photo shoot in Barrio Fiesta. The request was accepted and we were supposed to have our photo shoot; we were in Barrio Fiesta on the said day and we were just waiting for our teacher to arrive when a accident happened. One of my group mate's camera fell and we have to find a way to fix it or else she will be scolded by her parents and she will be grounded because the camera had a sentimental value.

We tried to find a shop that can fix the camera but we can't find any. Fortunately, our other group mates told us that they're already finished and that they'll just upload the pictures on our mediafire account. We were somewhat relieved because we just have to worry about how to fix the camera. We were already panicking when we decided to ask for help from our other friends. After a while, we figured out a way on how to tell my group mate's parents that the camera was broken.

On another day, we were supposed to submit a request for interview but I wasn't able to attend because I have to go to an important business. I was shocked when my group mate told me that the interview was done; she told me some of the informations that she had gathered and then the next day(card giving day), we decided to eat there so as to get the restaurant's menu.

I was taking the pictures of the restaurant's menu and it seemed like the crew was staring at us. Afterwards, a waiter approached us and said, "Pwede na kunin yung menu? May gagamit pa eh." I was shy but I told him, "Uhm, pwede pa po ba hiramin saglit? Kailangan pa po kasi namin para po sa project." He answered, "May copy ako. Mamaya bibigay ko nalang sa inyo tapos ipaxerox niyo nalang." and then I gave the menu. We ate for a while and I was expecting for the menu that the waiter promised but he didn't approached us (liar ! hahaha. just kidding). Suddenly, I saw the restaurant's manager and we approached him. We asked him of we could take a picture of their menu but he said that he cannot give us a copy of it so we just asked if we could take a picture of the Barrio Fiesta's crew... fortunately, he allowed us to.

*this was the reason why our MENU is somewhat incomplete. :D

After the photo shoots and the interviews, we decided to start our website. We were almost done with our project (there were only a few changes we have to make) but ... we were shocked when we checked our website in the computer lab, it was RUINED ! The alignment, the header, the navigation bar, almost everything was ruined.

We decided to make a new website and fortunately, we finished it and in fact .. it was better than the first website that we made.

Aside from this, I also enjoyed making our project narrative. We made our project narrative in the house of one of my group mates. I enjoyed making this because I enjoyed the bonding of our group.

The day of the project narrative taping was the same day as the confirmation of the second years and some of my group mates have to sing in the said event so our group decided to meet at 11:00 am; I wasn't able to come so I fetched them at around 1:00 pm. We waited for our other group mates before starting; when we were all there, we decided to improve our project first and then after that, we had a short break.

We had fun because our group mates wasn't "boring" to be with but I tell you, they were also weirdos. :D

They always make fun of one of our group mates and while we were eating during our break, they were experimenting things... after they had finished eating the cracker, one of our group mates dipped the strawberry flavored Rebisco into the vinegar and ate it; he said that it tastes great and he told my other group mates, "Tol, dali... isawsaw mo... masarap tol... promise tol... sweet and sour." then our other group mates dipped it and ate it too. They dipped and dipped until they consumed the Rebisco that was placed in the table. We were laughing and laughing because they made many experiments with what they ate. Afterwards, our group mate said, "Ayos tol, sabay sabay na tayo magtatae. hahahaha."

After all the fun.. we proceeded in making the project narrative. Pam made 25 takes before she finally finished her first script. We finished the script and after that we went home. We just uploaded the video afterwards.

Those were my experience for the cyberfair 2011. I really enjoyed the competition even if it required a lot of effort and even though it was quite stressing.

For now, we are just waiting for the results of the competition. I hope that every group will win... wish us luck ! :)
